Capitalism Defined

An economic system based on personal ownership, including of the means of production and their operation for profit, where individuals have autonomy in making their own economic decisions. Characteristics central to capitalism include private property, capital accumulation, influence, wage labor, voluntary exchange, a price system, and competitive markets. In a capitalist market economy, decision-making and investment are determined by every person using thier time, ability, money, or property in voluntary exchange with others for similarly valued assets or services while prices are mainly determined by competition in those same markets.
